Wind going through grass on Vinegar Hill
2016

The solid rock surface of a hill is surrounded by moving grasses in Wexford county, Ireland. In 1798 Vinegar Hill served as the largest camp and headquarters of the Wexford United Irish rebels, which came under siege by over 15.000 English soldiers on June 21, 1798. It marked a turning point in the rebellion, as it was the last attempt by the rebels to hold and defend ground against the British military.

Accompanying the images is a recording of a traditional bag-pipe band I came across in the streets of a small village in Wexford county on my way back from visiting Vinegar Hill.

Made during the residency ‘How to Flatten a Mountain’ at Cow House Studios, 2016.
